天主教或新教 : 圣诞节，或曰圣诞节，基督教庆圣子耶稣基督降生之节也。 节期公历十二月廿五日，基督教会多礼拜于前夕，是称平安夜，次日则庆祝。 然基督教一大分支东正教定节公历一月七日。 福音书载，耶稣母马利亚受圣神所感得孕，生之于伯利恒，时彼与夫约瑟往登籍途中。 按其教之说，耶稣乃犹太教预言之弥赛亚，盖伯利恒即戴维王之乡，与预言合焉。
圣诞节，可见唐《大秦景教流行中国碑颂》，其云「室女诞圣于大秦」，即斯之谓也。 于台湾，或以耶稣非中华固圣，乃多名曰「圣诞节」。 泰西诸国，奉基督教者众，时又近新年，因以为假，延至元旦方止，仿佛中华之春节。 廿四日夜，谓曰「平安夜」，亲友间当互赠礼物，至亲亦然。 更教俗谓当夜有圣诞老人，驾雪橇，以驯鹿曳之，遍巡天下，望门循烟囱而入，赠物以飨孩童，故稚子皆于当夜悬长筒袜以期之。 [Wikipedia]
